In 2010, the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance did this study to assess nonprofit managers’ and leaders’ management and leadership skills. This 43-page report covers the results.

The Foundation Center’s website lists a number of online courses on fundraising and proposal writing; some are free, and others range from $39 to $189. The site also has some free tutorials available in several languages.

The Points of Light Institute provides offers research, analysis, tools and training for people in the nonprofit world.

The folk at the Free Management Library provide this free, online course. It covers 10 subjects, such as ethics, marketing and accounting, that can be taken in any order at your own pace. 

“Measure What Matters” is an animated, interactive course designed to help nonprofits track how they’re performing. Produced by Cisco Systems Inc. and the Center for What Works, the $25 course uses case studies and tools, devised by experts, and it has a resource library. 

Create the Future offers a steady stream of webinars, usually for less than $50. They cover accounting, recruiting board members, fundraising, and just about any topic someone in the nonprofit world would like to know—or brush up on.

Nonprofit Enterprise at Work Inc. (NEW) began in 1993 to with the goal of helping nonprofits succeed by strengthening their management and offering solutions to issues facing the nonprofit community. It offers workshops out its offices in Ann Arbor and Detroit for free or for very reasonable prices.

Based in Sacramento, Calif., the Nonprofit Resource Center offers reasonably priced workshops on subjects like holding fundraising auctions, personnel, and how to build momentum for your cause.

Philanthropy Journal Calendar
Another good source for events, workshops, and training across the country. Philanthropy Journal tends to feature more events in North Carolina, since the online publication is offered through North Carolina State University.
